UnWrapping Christmas with Mike Wilson of 39 Stripes

Lead vocalist Mike Wilson of 39 Stripes is doing a lot of his Christmas shopping online this holiday season.  Then again, he’s earned a respite from the spotlight after the release of his band’s October release of Beyond Broken, which took two years to craft.  I’m happy to welcome him to UnWrapping Christmas with Backseat Writer.

Did you score any good deals on Black Friday?  Is it a day of great deals or terrifying chaos?

No, I am a sleep-take-advantage-er, and the rare chances I am allowed to, I take advantage of it!  Truth be told, I do most of my shopping online these days.

Where are you spending Christmas this year…and what are you looking most forward to?

My family is pretty much scattered across Florida, and my wife’s family is scattered across the U.S, so we will probably end up bouncing between FL and GA since they are the closest.  I look forward to everything about Christmas! It is my FAVORITE holiday–  the food, the homemade candies, cookies, etc, the smell of the freshly cut tree, the hot apple cider, the food..did I say the food?

What was the best Christmas gift you ever received? (Don’t say “Jesus” because that’s a given!)

When I was a kid, my brother and I got go-carts from my grandfather.  That was pretty cool!

Describe one of the most hilarious Christmases.

I don’t know about hilarious, but right after I graduated high school, we had a house fire and lost pretty much everything and ended up spending Christmas at the Holiday Inn!  There wasn’t really room for a tree and everything, so I taped Christmas lights to the hotel mirror in the shape of a tree!  It was cool because that Christmas was less about presents and more about time with family, memories, etc, and I was old enough to appreciate it; don’t get me wrong, I still got some cool gifts too!

What’s your fave Christmas song/Christmas movie or cartoon/Christmas cookie?

Song: “O Holy Night,” Movie: “Christmas Vacation,” Cookie: SUGAR!! (chewy, not crunchy please!)

New Year’s resolution—yes or no? If yes, what is your resolution?

I try to have one every year. I am sure it will include eating healthier and working out more, etc, etc…I blame the Christmas cookies!
