Long time no blog, eh? I bet you thought I fell off the face of the earth. You might have if you hadn’t been checking my Twitter updates about our router being on the fritz and our internet connection being sketchy. However, I just needed a break to take time to enjoy the holidays, my friends and family, and relax. But here I am again. It’s January 5 and I want to cry.
While some people returned to work on Jan. 2, manydidn’t start back up again until today. The fun is over and now it’s back to the real world. There are bleary winter days left until the first signs of spring when the world begins again. Until then, it’s icy sidewalks and mushy gray snow slush. That’s what today feels like–mushy gray snow slush.
The New Year seems to be a time of hopeful expectation and resolution making. I found myself bitterly saying, “Man, I hope this year doesn’t suck as much as last year.” Yeah, I’m a real ray of sunshine today. But it’s all about attitude and mine stinks.
Sure, 2009 could suck, but I made it through 2008 and the previous years, so I can make it through 2009, and I may even enjoy it. Gasp! I will still battle anxiety and depression, but each day I win more battles. Progress is slow, much slower than I would like, but it is progress nonetheless.
Today may seem like mushy gray snow slush and that’s OK. Because even days that are mushy gray snow slush are valuable to my journey. I just hike up my pants, put on my winter boots, and trudge on. There will still be joy and laughter and fun. Besides, it *is* sort of fun to kick slush up at an unsuspecting friend, isn’t it? 🙂
Looks like there will be a bit more gray snow slush around the Valley for a while. Hope you find sufficiency in Christ.
